Certain shortcut keys, such as Cmd+number to select an element style, are processed first by Safari and not passed to a web app the way they are on other browsers (such as Chrome and Firefox). On Safari, those shortcuts are used to change the active tab. There is currently no way to override or avoid this behavior.

Fade In Access will also allow you to alternately use Ctrl+number to select an element style.
